"Euphoria" (Album, 1993)

I discovered Insides on a cover-mounted CD with an issue of Alternative Press a few years ago. Insides are a two-piece consisting of J. Serge Tardo (guitar, samples, programming and piano) and Kirsty Yates (vocals and bass guitar). I picked up their 1993 Euphoria album on the strength of that one track heard previously.

This sits comfortably within the 4AD stable sound, but like much of the once essential label's releases in recent years, it fails to strike a remarkable enough chord. Mostly ethereal vocals and lots of lush strings but mixed, not too successfully, with more up tempo and beat driven pieces. Not bad but certainly nothing special. 6/10
