"Shouting
into the ether with his eyes rolled back in his head"
Another
absolutely blinding set from Deal’s finest, an intense broadside of
Agit-Pop in the best sense of the phrase (they were both agitated
and agitating) - an intense, unsettlingly spiky experience. Anxiety
has never been so enjoyable.
I won’t go
into a detailed description of the sound as I’ve
done that previously, but amid circular, looping (looped)
riffs and keyboard drones, singer Troy is the focus - a wired,
coiled-spring performer, anxiously plucking at his jacket, going
‘off mic’; shouting into the ether with his eyes rolled back in his
head; ending the set screaming with his head in the bass drum.
They got a
decent sized crowd on-side pretty effortlessly, and my one criticism
was that the guitar could have been a bit louder, but that’s pretty
small potatoes. More London gigs, please. 9/10
